What is Randonneuring? Randonneuring is a type of organized long distance bicycle riding, with rides typically covering between 100 and 1,200 kilometres (60-750 miles). A participant is known as a randonneur. Anyone with an interest in long-distance, self-supported cycling is welcome to join on these rides. Ralph Rognstad has set up a web site randonneuring in the Southwest Missouri area. Go here for the details.

Office of Butler, Rosenbury & Partners, Inc 319 N. Main Suite 200 3rd Floor Community Room. Agenda is here.
Ride starts at 438 E. St. Louis. The riders should have some form of lighting but more to be seen than to see with. The streets chosen are all lighted but riders should have some form of lighting but more to be seen than to see with.
The 7 Mile Ride begins at 9:15 pm (course will be open for up to two 7-mile laps.) We need 20 Volunteers. Volunteering consist of riding the course and just being a presence on the ride. Contact Tim Weston at 840-5687 for any questions, Tim will be the main contact person.
From the Prez: I would really like to see a big turnout from Springbike. The ride begins at 9:15 but it would be great for a lot of us to show up at 7:30 pm. When you get there contact Tim and let him know you are there. We will just be a presence on the ride to help out if we are needed and at the beginning there will be an opportunity to help do minor adjustments on the bikes of some of the kids that show up. So bring your chain oil, floor pumps and tool kits. What a great way to make a positive impression on the youth of Springfield.

Hope you didn't miss the September cookout! Due to the Tour of Missouri we have decided to cancel the planned September cookout. We are, however, looking into expanding the breakfasts we started last year in the Fall.
Tragically there was a heat related fatality on a local cycling ride in July. Last Saturday, there were people out doing the MS training ride from Elwood who were using nothing more than water and a gel or two as their source of hydration and nutrition and several were having some serious problems. Even experienced cyclists have issues in this heat and need to be reminded. Dr. Herman Falsetti, the cycling coach of Tour de France, Ironman and endurance athletes recommends drinking three or four water bottles every hour! (Read more here…) Dying should not be an option on any ride, whether it be a weeknight group ride or an organized weekend ride. Drink Drink Drink.
Check it out on our Safe Riding Page.
They have asked us to always park vehicles only on the north end of the parking lot since they have many events throughout the week. They have been very open and helpful to us. Please cooperate and maintain our good relationship with them. Thank you.
And from our friends at Fellowship Bible Church (FR205) - all bike riders please park on the north side of the church while construction in going on. Please pass this on to all cyclists that may not know. If you see somebody parking on the south side please tell them. They always allow us to park here for our events so lets get the word out. Thanks.
Or in layman’s terms, watch out for poison Ivy! With all the rain we’ve had this Spring, roadside ditches and especially fence lines are crawling with poison ivy. Here's how to recognize this nasty stuff.
One easy way to keep in touch with other members is to join the Springbike email list. It’s free, and allows members to send a single email that will be broadcast to all subscribed members and posted blog-style on a Yahoo Groups hosted page.
| 3. If you would rather just go to the Yahoo host page and view the emails there, go to the new hyperlink on the top of the Springbike Home Page to get there. (...no need to join anything.) |
